Short description of the organisation
China Intelligent Urbanization Collaboration Co-creation Center for High Density Region (CIUC) is initiated by Tongji University and jointly established by Tongji University, Fudan University, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China and Chinese Society for Urban Studies. A multi-disciplinary, collaborative and technologically integrative centre, the Centre aims to strike the urbanization development goals of “intensiveness”, “intelligence”, “green” and “low carbon”. Through institutional innovation, the Centre collaborates with research institutes, local authorities and enterprises related with “urbanization” in the Yangtze River Region to support this region’s urbanization, and in the process, to forge CIUC as the top research power of intelligent urbanization in China. CIUC’s scope of activities include: solving crucial issues in intelligent urbanization, nurturing top talents in the sphere of urbanization, functioning as a world class intelligent urbanization knowledge pool and providing theoretical foundations, decision-making consultancy, and technical support for China’s new urbanization.
Key Staff in URBAN-EU-CHINA
Prof. Zhiqiang WU is Vice President of Tongji University, Director of CIUC, and professor of College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He is Honorary Fellow of American Institute of Architects and Academician of Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Science. He serves as Co-Chair of International Steering Committee of World Planning School Congress, Permanent Member of UNESCO-UIA (International Union of Architects), World Architectural Education Council, Member of Advisory Committee – Creative Economy-United Nations Special Unit for South-South Cooperation, UNDP. As Vice President of Urban Planning Society of China, Vice President of China Association of Building Energy Efficiency, Vice President of China Green Building Council, he is the most influential academic figure in the field of urbanization study and urban planning. Prof. Wu was Chief Planner of World EXPO Shanghai 2010 and Qingdao World Horticultural exhibition, and the Chief Planner of the Earthquake Placement Plan in Sichuan. Currently, Prof. WU is appointed the chief planner of the comprehensive urban design of the sub-center of Tongzhou city. wus@tongji.edu.cn
Prof. Otthein Herzog: Fellow of acatech – German National Academy of Science and Technology; Fellow of GI ( German National Computer Society). From 1993-2009, Prof. Otthein Herzog was Professor of Artificial Intelligence in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University Bremen heading the Artificial Intelligence Research Group. He also is Founder and Director of the TZI – Centre for Computing and Communication Technologies with 160 full-time researchers in 2009. Since 1998, he is affiliate professor at George Mason University, Machine Learning and Inference Laboratory. Since 2010 he is Wisdom Professor of Visual Information Technologies at Jacobs University Bremen, where he is also a founding member of the Research Centre “VisComX – Visual Communication and Expertise”. Prof. CAO Buyang: Professor of School of Software Engineering, Tongji University. Prof. CAO works at School of Software Engineering, Tongji University. His research interests include data mining and analytics, optimization algorithm development, GIS, spatiotemporal data fusion and their applications for smart city and logistics. He has led and participated research projects including some national key projects. Ms. ZHANG Weijun: Project Coordinator. ZHANG Weijun, project coordinator, started working for China Intelligent Urbanization Co-Creation Center for High Density Region (CIUC) at Tongji University in 2015, involved in several intelligent city and big data related projects, has adequate experiences of data analysis and project management, currently assisting in creating benchmarks and providing monitoring support for the matching of cities in the EU-CHINA Innovation Platform on Sustainable Urbanisation. zhangweijun@wuslab.org
Ms. CAO Jingyun: Project Coordinator. CAO Jingyun, project coordinator, started working for China Intelligent Urbanization Co-Creation Center for High Density Region (CIUC) at Tongji University in April, 2017.
