ProGIreg

CategoryAmbitious Urban Projects & Innovation Playgrounds
KeywordsUrban Infrastructures & Planning | Environment, Energy & Climate | Health & Well-Being | Innovation & Entrepreneurship

ProGIreg uses nature for urban regeneration with and for citizens.

ProGIreg stands for ‘productive Green Infrastructure for post-industrial urban regeneration’: nature for renewal. The project is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme and will run from June 2018 until 2023.

Front-runner cities and their Living Labs
Dortmund (Germany), Turin (Italy), Zagreb (Croatia) and Ningbo (China) host Living Labs where innovative new nature-based solutions are co-developed and tested with the communities living there.

Local ownership and participation
Local communities of the Living Labs are central to this project and involved at all stages from design to implementation. Since there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ model, local knowledge is essential for local adaptation of the nature-based solutions. A key aim is therefore to push-start citizen-ownership, so that impact is long-term and benefits future generations.

Sharing the knowledge
In addition to the cities, a global network of observer cities, NGOs, research institutions, the private sector and individual citizens and activists will have the opportunity to learn from the project. Key aims are to spread awareness of the potential of nature-based solutions, promote market up-take and to feed the results into EU policies and strategies, so that nature-based solutions become the norm and not the exception.

ISOCARP (the International Society of City and Regional Planners)

CategoryLooking for new partners?
KeywordsUrban Infrastructures & Planning | Environment, Energy & Climate

The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) is a global association of experienced professional city and regional planners. ISOCARP was founded in 1965 in a bid to bring together recognised and highly-qualified planners in an international network.
The network brings together individual and institutional members from more than 85 countries worldwide. We are planners and other stakeholders involved in the development and maintenance of the built environment. As a non-governmental organisation ISOCARP is recognized by the United Nations (UN), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UNHCS/UN-HABITAT), and the Council of Europe. The Society also has a formal consultative status with the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Although ISOCARP members work in many different fields we all share a common interest in the spatial and environmental dimensions of urbanisation, advising key decision-makers, proposing and supporting projects for intervention in a spatial context through general or specific actions.

The objectives of ISOCARP are to improve cities and territories through planning practice, training, education and research. ISOCARP promotes the planning profession in all its aspects. ISOCARP keeps its focus on being a politically and commercially independent network of professional planners. We have grown into a world-wide organisation but also kept a strong European emphasis.

The Society aims at becoming a more global organisation and is particularly looking for a stronger base in Asia, Latin America and Africa. However, it is also important to strengthen the traditional European base. The main tools of ISOCARP are the yearly congresses, symposia, workshops and publications.

Emporium concept

Wansdronk develops a solar energy, zero-emission and material saving building concept Emporium. A warm water storage container and heat collectors provide the space heating and hot water supply, and a cold water storage container and cool collectors deliver the space cooling and cooling source for the refrigerator. The water circulates without pumps; instead it uses thermosiphon, and therefore requires no high-grade energy such as electricity or fuel.

E-Culture and Arts for Intelligent Cities – Workshop in Beijing (April 26, 2018)

CategoryEvents & Activities
KeywordsHealth & Well-Being | Digital Cities & Services

E-Culture and Arts for Intelligent Cities

Digital access to cultural assets offers the opportunity for a variety of actors to engage into a discourse on cultural identities, and to form and link city-level cultural communities based on a shared interest of understanding, interpreting and exploiting culture. These Communities foster the co-working and co-creation of citizens, researchers, students, tourists, pupils and enterprises on specific cultural heritage that, when interlinked, will create an eCulture eco-system.
Local aggregators or cultural offices of municipalities are driving forces in Smart City concepts and in the funding of cultural activities. Municipalities organize city cultural life and are responsible for the implementation of projects which allow citizens to access and engage with digital cultural heritage. The aim of this workshop is to explore relevant areas of common interest, exchange best practice solutions and cooperate in joint projects.
