On the morning of May 18th, the project team of “Horizon 2020” Trans-Urban-EU-China held a seminar on the Construction of EU-China Urban Research and Innovation Lab in Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone. The event was organised by members of the platform, including the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the European Cities Alliance, the Israel Smart Cities Institute, the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe and China Center for Urban Development ; representatives of Tianjin municipal government agencies, business, community and project team experts also participated in the discussion in developing EU-China Urban Research and Innovation Lab. Over nearly five-hour discussion, the two sides analysed the venue for the Lab, exchanged ideas about the spatial quality needs of local stakeholders and came up with measures for improving the working and living physical environmental qualities of the laboratory.

The EU-China Urban Research and Innovation Lab aims to promote the cooperation between China and the EU, jointly improves the quality of sustainable urbanization and commits to creating a better business and urban living environment for Tianjin Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Park and promoting industrial upgrading and innovation for cities. The “Horizon 2020” Urban-EU-China Innovation Platform aims to implement the Joint Declaration on the EU-China Partnership on Urbanisation signed by the EU and Chinese leaders in 2012 so as to promote cooperation among cities in China and Europe. The concerted efforts of China and the EU to promote the development of the Tianjin Port Bonded Zone aims to translate it into a model demonstration of cooperation for the common prosperity of China and the EU.
